I’ve been an activist for years, but it slowed down with the onset of the pandemic.

(Big rallies and marches are a lot less common. My megaphone is gathering dust.)

Decor Activism — Not me. but I also own the Pyle-style mic.

Someone suggested I join my local neighborhood council. I ran, got elected, and voted mostly on procedural issues until we got a huge one.

In order to “preserve our groundwater”, a consortium I will call “The interesting Corporation” wanted approval to redo the park and build a cistern underneath.

Sounds great, right? This’ll be fast and cheap?

“Well, no, it’s going to take several years and the budget starts at $15 million before overruns.”

I made calls, emails and speeches to make sure not only was the measure defeated, it wouldn’t be dropped on another neighborhood council in an improved form.

The end result: they didn’t, and made a pointless, proprietary tunnel in Las Vegas that works like a subway but stupider.
